Can Mario Museum

Can Mario is the Contemporary Sculpture Museum of the Vila Casas Foundation in Palafrugell (Girona), opened in 2004. It houses around 220 sculptures created since the 1960’s until present and which belong to artists born or residing in Catalonia. Additionally, each year temporary exhibits are organised.

Can Mario was an old cork factory from the beginning of the 20th century, which formed part of the factory’s architectural site by the Miquel & Vincke cork company. Today it is a space for artistic contemplation located in the Plaça de Can Mario, where the Modernist Water Tower and the Cork Museum are also located.

Since April 2011, a total of 33 sculptures have been placed by artists from Empordá in the Can Mario Garden in a permanent outdoor exhibit. In October of the same year, the Sala Empordà was inaugurated inside the Museum, dedicated exclusively to celebrating the samples of authors linked to Empordà.
